First Ever Themed Video From Assam : Parkour and Free Running

Parkour - It is a method of physical training that develops one's ability to overcome obstacles. It involves movements that helps if one is in a reach or escape emergency situations.

Altruism, Useful Strength, Longevity, Self improvement and Self understanding develops through this. Parkour is termed under the category of extreme sports, which had its origination at France. Parkour has achieved a great attraction and place in the world wide scenario. Our country India, is nevertheless from the scene. But how did parkour reach our locality? A boy from Diphu, Karbi Anglong can be said as the torchbearer of parkour here.

A journey to a destination is never easy and so do was his journey. It started when one afternoon, he was watching Ryan Doyle and Daniel Ilabaca (well known freerunners) doing some basic moves in a television channel. And, this was enough to encourage the boy. He surfed the internet, watched videos of parkour and with each passing day, he felt much attached to it.
He trained alone, experienced criticism but nothing could stop the zeal that was burning inside him. He found that the art of parkour was a rare scene in our place. So, with the motive of spreading the art, he along with his friends formed a team at Diphu. During the summers, he used to visit Dibrugarh and was able to encourage many others to get connected with parkour and was able to expand his team at Dibrugarh also. This is how the name 'PARKOUR' entered into the minds of people here.
On June 2010, He named his team 'AR FREERUNNING' (Aggressive Runners Freerunning) and this marked the initials of the journey of Akash Roy (Founder). On the next step, was the formation of a Facebook Group, followed by a Facebook Page. He then, started writing blogs about AR Freerunning and promoted parkour throughout. The dream and the aim of spreading the art was turning into a reality.

The first event of the team was at Diphu named 'PARKOUR & FREERUNNING JAM DIPHU' on 8th December,2013 (the first parkour jam in assam), which proved to be fruitful and further encouraged the team. Akash Roy, along with his team has covered a long way. The team, now participates at state as well as in National events, representing the very own people of our locality. It has gained a greater level of popularity with the help of media.
The media is also making documentary films on parkour and free running in different conditions and environments and uploading them to raise awareness among peoples about this extreme sport. The team also conducts workshops at different places like grounds, schools, colleges etc. to train the interested fellows. A drawback of the parkour scenario in our country is the number of female athletes.

Reality shows that, when the females are getting actively involved with this sport out side India, our country is lagging behind. We live in 21st century, where we term males and females as equal, then why not in this field? AR Freerunning has taken the initiative to promote female athletes and also has many females as their team members.

Even though the team is dwelling in the hearts of people outside through their parkour scenario, but the peoples in our locality are still not aware of this. So, it is now our initiative to spread this art, and make people aware of what parkour actually is. We urge the people to stand by us, support us, encourage us and motivate us. We want the peoples of every age group, specially the teenagers both male and female to take interest in this extreme sport and help us to promote it throughout our place. The interested one can come and train themselves and will get accquintate with "Parkour" under utmost safety. And recently we planned a gathering name "WE JUMP THE WORLD - DIBRUGARH" on 29th April at Khanikar Park, where we will do a free workshop and we will aware the sport.
